I had a job a few years back in the Washington DC area.The building I worked in was across the street from a Metro station, so the company gave me a bunch of prepaid metro passes.Which would have been Great if I had Lived anywhere Near the Metro.As it was, the station at work was the Last station on the line for going INTO DC. I lived in the Opposite direction and that was the Closest metro station to where I lived..I did appreciate the fact that they’d Tried.Most companies these days are more like the one that invited a bunch of us Employees to an after work “Party” that turned out to be a Cash Bar when we arrived..

I used to get 8000 yen a month to take the bus from home to work and back. I usually rode my bicycle or walked.
