    wsmorris: I have seen them called ā€œthrowing sticksā€. Returning boomerangs are mostly for sport. Those used for hunting were to guide game, not directly kill it ā€“ such as driving a flock of birds into a net. The ones used to kill directly are seldom meant to return ā€“ you go pick them up when you collect your meat.
