Isolationism at work. We can just ignore the Asian Pacific economy. Who needs a rapidly growing market of ten billion potential customers?

Ted, any legislation done almost entirely in secret is not to be trusted. The only “people” to benefit are corporations, military/industrial complex, etc.

There is no reason we can’t compete with people that work for 2 bucks (or less) a day…

Logic does not live on these comment strings..

I am ignorant of the proposed agreement, but think it’s likely a good idea. I actually trust Obama on this one. I know, amazingly, I voted twice for the guy and now I can honestly say I trust him. Look, the Chinese are not involved in this, so the proposed agreement is the US and the rest of the Pacific region saying to China, OK, we get it, you are big and ambitious. Fine. We are big and we got friends. It’s that simple. This is a lesson in reality, folks. You may not like it, but globalism isn’t going to stop because you wave your magic wand. Do we counter Chinese hegemony in collaboration with other Pacific countries, or do we pull up the drawbridge? Man, you pull up the drawbridge and we are in trouble. I like Elizabeth Warren. I think she has a point about the legal standing of various parties under the proposed agreement. I also understand and sympathize with people who can’t compete in today’s economy. Life’s a bitch, that’s why I’m for higher progressive taxes to help pay for better education, basic scientific research, better infrastructure, and a more generous safety net, especially for children—everybody’s children, all across this fair land of ours. The agreement cannot be negotiated in the press. That’s just plain stupid. It’s like playing poker while not only showing your hand, but discussing how to play the hand in front of the other negotiators. How smart would that be. Plus, this is Barack Obama we are talking about. He’s smart and insightful, and I trust him. If it were the Republicans in charge, we might get a bonehead like Tom Cotton negotiating on our behalf.

Even the folks at Gutenberg are against the “unspecific agreement”. They say it will play havoc with copyright law and public domain.

I, for one, will be voting for any Democrats I can who voted down the TPP. Of course, my senator is Elizabeth Warren…
