It was a German Shepherd I think was named ‘Latka’ that the Soviets sent up. To this day it bothers me to know it didn’t survive and they knew up front it wasn’t going to.

Ah ha, another possible “Rover” on Mars?

Red, I think all of us would feel a lot more comfortable if you bypass this option… at least for now!

tcar, First of all, you’re a good person and I am extremely grateful to you and your wife for helping so many animals through your rescue. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. I’m sorry you misunderstood my comment, you don’t have to get all anal and defensive, it just sounds disparaging when you say “she was just a stray mutt.” Words have meaning and I was only commenting to that effect. Your quotation marks around “stray mutt” are meaningless by the way because there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that, whether or not it’s a quotation. The questionable word here is “just,” which was your wording. How would your kid feel if you introduced her as, “Oh, she’s just my stepchild?” Why don’t you “just” admit that your wording was inadvertently pejorative? And no, I can’t say I’ve helped 10000 animals, but I have helped quite a few on my own. I cared for at least 25 stray dogs and two stray cats that I found while living in Tijuana, Mexico, over a 10 year period. I couldn’t take the dogs into my home, but I brought them food and water everyday and took them to the vet when necessary and found good homes for a lot of them. They were not “just strays,” they were my precious babies. I still have one of the cats, she is about 12 or 13 years old now; unfortunately, the other one disappeared one day long ago. I haven’t found any strays living in the San Diego area for the past eight years, just the neighbors’ dogs occasionally that I round up and call their owners to come and get them. I know that what I have done is nothing compared to you, however I do help to the best of my ability.
