Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for July 09, 2015
July 08, 2015
July 10, 2015
Transcript:
Calvin: "I read this library book you got me"
Mom: "What did you think of it?"
Calvin: "It really made me see things differently. It's given me a lot to think about"
Mom: "I'm glad you enjoyed it"
Calvin: "It's complicating my life. Don't get me any more"
Sounds like Calvin believes in keeping his life simple, like Henry David Thoreau. But when Thoreau wrote, âSimplify, simplify,â he wasnât talking about willful ignorance.

Thanks, leftwingpatriot. The comics are one of the great pleasures of life. Why should we deliberately deny ourselves pleasure by engaging in nasty political arguments, when we could instead be enjoying sharing with each other one of the greatest comic strips ever created?Itâs sort of like sitting down in your favorite chair to enjoy your all-time favorite movie with your best friends, but then deciding that all of you should stand on one leg and watch two hours of infomercials instead.
You know with kids so fat and lazy these days with their videos games etc. I really think itâs better to see Calvin running and ripping than sitting around reading his summer away. I did well in school and am a college graduate but in the summer time we played. Sitting around reading was the last thing I wanted to do.
I didnât read yesterdayâs âBaby Bluesâ until after Iâd read this yesterday, but it had a book theme that made a lot of sense. Maybe somebody could post it?
@LeadingEdge: I guess the idea there must be that if you have a log sticking out of your eye, especially if itâs one of those redwood tree trunks, you wonât be able to see where you are going and you will probably just bonk your brother in the eye with the log. After that, both of you will have to refer to the passage that says that if a blind man leads a blind man, both of them will fall into a pit.
@LeadingEdge: Actually, I deliberately missed the point. I was writing tongue-in-cheek for entertainment purposes. Or was it log-in-eye? I guess a Biblical literalist would have to assume that logs were somewhat smaller 20 centuries ago. :>)
@leftwingpatriot: Perhaps there were Biblical veterinary ophthalmic surgeons, in case a needle went through the eye of a camel. (Sorry about the painful humor.)

Donât worry, Mom, heâs hooked. He just wonât admit it.

Itâs not like it would be complicated because you always want your Dad to read that same book over and over again when its your bed time.

Did Calvin really read it, or did Hobbes give him the book report on it?

The life of a 6 year old is SOOOO complicated already. How dare you try to induce him to think? What were you ⊠thinking?

Calvinâs response to his Mom, âItâs complicating my life.â says he did read the book and did understand what he read.
There is hope for Calvin after allâŠ

Neither left or right along the politico-religio-social line, rather slightly outside of it.

Well, that makes sense because we know a camel canât go through an eye of a needle.
Hobbes Premium Member over 9 years ago
@leftwingpatriot: I think itâs the camelâs humps that are the problem.
Hobbes Premium Member over 9 years ago
@leftwingpatriot: But if they make the needleâs eye that large, a log could get in it.
