I use to work third shift (from 11p to 7a) and slept during the day. I left my phone on because I have a large family and wanted to be contacted right away if anything was wrong. About once a month I’d get a call from a newspaper in a nearby town wanting to sign me up for delivery (nearby was about 50 miles away). I always told them that I was satisfied with my local paper and had no interest in theirs and would they please put me on their do not call list. But every month, I’d get a call. That is, until one month when the call woke me up out of a sound (and much needed) sleep. I gave the salesgirl the usual request but she started going into the full sales speal and I finally had enough. I told her, “Look, I work third shift and sleep during the day, I leave my phone on in case of an emergency and this is no emergency, now put me on your damn do not call list, I sick and tired of getting this call every month.” The salesgirl stammered that she didn’t have that kind of authority but she’d get her supervisor. A few seconds later I gave the supervisor the same angry message that I gave the salesgirl and she agreed to take me off their call list. That was the last time I ever heard from them.
