Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for May 25, 2010
Transcript:
Kevin: I dropped the purple crayon and it went under there. Miss Bliss: I'll get the broom. Alice: Kevin! The purple is the best crayon! The paper isn't torn and it hasn't been chewed on. It doesn't have other-crayon schmutz on it! It's pristine! And now it's under there? Miss Bliss: Was this it? Kevin: Hard to tell. Alice: KEVIN!

Love Miss Bliss’ use of “was.”

Yuck! How can any self-respecting cat play with toys my broom finds under the bed during bi-annual cleanings?

…did Alice use the word schmutz? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone under the age of 40 use that word before.

Tennessee Wms must be “ghost” writing (how many sins is that, Ms. M?)

I wonder where Alice learned about schmutz.

I firmly believe that we all have a little Kevin in us.

Miss Bliss might be able to wash it off carefully, but the paper will never again be “pristine” - sorry Alice ;->

Alice is right—how a person treats color crayons reveals the condition of their soul.

I take back what i said about this. This is actually pretty funny. And Alice reminds me of Calvin. I’m sorry for what i said.

No worries, Rachel7. Welcome!
For the record, I really like both “Calvin and Hobbes” AND “Cul de Sac.” They’re good in some of the same ways, and they’re good in some different ways, but they’re both good.
(However, I eat neither snails NOR oysters.)

Can anyone tell me what year this strip came out?

And the purple crayon is the Cosmic Cube of crayons. ( Just look what Harold can do with it!)
comics4brown over 14 years ago
You know Harold wasn’t in this class though - or else that book would have been called Harold and the green crayon — or whatever….

Rachel7, “Cul de Sac” started as a regular feature in the Washington Post in 2004. It began nationwide syndication as a daily strip in 2007.
There are currently two collections of the strip, Cul de Sac: This Exit and Cul de Sac: Children at Play, available, and a third - Cul de Sac: Shapes and Colors - is in the works. A “Treasury” volume is also going to be released in the summer of 2010.
As Richard Thompson (the cartoonist himelf) said yesterday, stick around for a while. Alice is a great character (so is her brother, Petey, and many others). The more you see of them, the more you’ll enjoy them.

Hey, Rachel7, I’m glad that you changed your mind. And just so you know, I have absolutely NOTHING against High School Musical. I just wanted to make a point. =]

Alice now seems like a younger version of myself methinks…
