A favorite Memory from my one week in Japan:.Seeing another American tourist in Tokyo throw a candy wrapper on the ground:That piece of litter no sooner hit the sidewalk than a Japanese Grandmother scooped it up, read the litterbug the Riot Act in Japanese and led him By the Hand to the nearest Trash basket..I’m pretty sure he didn’t understand a Word of Japanese, but there was No Doubt that he will Never Forget the day he Littered in Tokyo..What are you going to DO when a 4 foot tall Grandmother is giving you a lesson in Good Manners? It was Priceless. I Wish I had Video..
Things have changed, There were years when I was constantly pointed at, yet when it was kids on a school bus, I would wave back. I always thought Yokohama or Kamakura were better places for non Japanese to live than Tokyo. I hear that Kansai people are more friendly than Kanto people.
I believe it. However, the generations growing into middle age in Japan now have all had teachers in their high schools from various English-speaking countries. So, I don’t see that happening anymore.
