The sad thing about this particular strip is it’s accuracy. I did a stint one summer as a door to door salesman and successfully pulled off this same stunt hundreds of times selling a set of steak knives. (my cost $5.99 each) I flat out told them 1 for $9.99, 2 for $25, or 3 for $50. Not once did anyone ever question my prices. They just assumed the twofer/threefer’s “deals” I was selling were a bargain.

Once I was selling corn at a farmer’s market for a dollar a dozen. At the end of the morning, I had eight left, and a lady wasn’t about to pay full price for the dregs. But she was perfectly tickled to get them for 10c apiece.

There was a sale at the supermarket a few weeks ago – 88¢ for a half gallon of milk. A full gallon jug was still the regular price ($2.99). Someone ahead of me in line was buying a gallon of milk. The checker tried to point out to her that it would be cheaper to buy two half gallons, but she declined the offer — “I need a gallon,” she said..And then there are people who don’t think we should teach math in schools…
