Rose: How did my wrapping paper become unraveled? This has something to do with Jimbo and the new Star Wars movie trailer! You're welcome, Jedi! I believe you took a cardboard tube to make yourself a lightsaber!
Jimbo: Sorry.
As the owner of several (yeah, they’re not real either) light sabers, I suggest that those who do not desire to see the upcoming Star Wars sequels should simply do not do so, that they instead find something else to watch, and leave the anticipation and eventual enjoyment (or disappointment, if that be the case) of said sequels to those who are more likely to appreciate them. May the Force be with you.
Most of the best space science fiction of the last 40 years probably won’t be made into movies in the near future because they are based on complex theories that would have to be dumbed-down and misunderstood by viewers..Although I appreciate the enthusiasm of Star Wars movies and their great special effects (and don’t sneer at the fans) I wish the directing talent money would be applied to making films of, for instance, Larry Niven and Stephen Baxter novels. Or even Crichton’s last novels such as “Timeline” and “Next.”.Has CHILDHOOD’S END ever been into a movie? Or any more of the Clarke novels other than those in the “2001” series? I really hoped that “2001” would be re-made for the 21st century. My opinion: I liked “Interstellar.”
On the topic of S/F Films one of the VERY FEW that truly deserves a remake is “The People” (Based on Zenna Henderson’s short storys) Kim Darby starred in it back in the 70’s but the levitation was pathetic and Shatner was an anything-but-convincing Country Doctor. Given the CGI and Blue-Screen improvements over the last 20 years I we could just about “do it right” now, and the Storys DESERVE it!
I remember going to see Dune when it came out in the theaters. I was a big fan of the first book and couldn’t help but wonder how they were going to deal with intricate sciene, religion, and sociological aspects of the novel. The answer, they didn’t, I had to tell people the movie had 2 ratings, if you knew the novel and all it’s intricate social and religious background you’d understand what was happening in the movie and you’d enjoy it. If you didn’t know anything about the books you’d be lost in the first five minutes and hate it.

I can’t think of a movie sequel I have less desire to see (except Hot Tub Time Machine 3).
