I started at the phone company as a temp in a gigantic, modern cube-infested building. Every week I had to wend my way across the building to get my time slip signed by the on-site reps from the temp company. I was forever grateful to them for their inspired landmark, sticking up way over the cubes and visible across half the building: A giant, inflatable, glittery palm tree, gently waving there in the fan breeze under the acoustic ceiling. Gave me a grin every time I saw it.
