Zim was a hero in my Mom’s hometown of Horseheads NY. His house is a tourist attraction (for those who still remember- but many locals no longer do.) His centennial was marked with a special celebration a few decades ago, and my Uncle, an amateur cartoonist in his own right, was asked to design a special piece of art for the occasion. He did a drawing of Zim in an imitation of Zim’s style. I still have a couple of drinking glasses somewhere with the art on them.-————————That said, although Zim was himself of German background, he makes the typical mistake of blurring the line between German and Dutch. They were once distinguished as High Dutch and Low Dutch- but the people we now call simply Dutch do not have the word ‘und’ in their language. If they are indeed representatives of the Netherlands or immigrants from that land, the title should be LENA EN LOUI (although Loui might be better spelled Loei.) ‘Mit’ should be ‘med," ’speak’ would be a German accent, and not Dutch- and in neither language would ‘der’ be used for a plural. -————————That’s comics for you.
