People are still offended in 2021 as they were in 1978 but now with the power of social media one can simply “cancel out” the person, place or thing which offends you if others believe as you do and your point goes viral. For obvious reason this is positive in cases of stereotypes, racism and ignorance. In some ways though, it may have gone too far in some cases as Bill Maher likes to point out when he goes on a rant about political correctness.
