I was assigned to Loring AFB (northern Maine), and drove from Los Angeles in late April. My first weekend there I went fishing. I came home, and woke up in the middle of the night itching and my hand was swollen. I went to the base ER and they said "Another Black Fly victim. People who have never experienced them don’t understand how vicious these things are. If you go outside from April through October, you need to immerse yourself in something like DEET or Deep Woods Off.
Humans are arrogant; we think that we are the dominate creature on earth. WRONG! It is the insect world. The insects rule. If we could go a million years into the future; I’ll bet you would see insects dominating the world again.
Trust me, you do not want to get stung by a black fly. They weren’t too bad this year but some years are downright mean. Hubby has been known to wear a net to do a few outdoor chores.We’re in the same state as these kids and their creator.
