Just a note….back in Red’s time I never heard tell of a rowdy passenger. People were still dressing up to fly back then! Of course, people weren’t being virtually strip-searched on their way to the plane, either. Geez we’ve hit the skids!
mggreen603: Those are trainers. Two rubber-powered types (coup d’hiver and Wakefield) are serious competition aircraft with sanction by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the same folks who homulgate all aerospace records.
1965..bought a 25 cent rubber band powered one at Farleys hardware.Played with it and.put it on the shelf..Mom bought me a 5 cent glider later..I took it out back to the parking lot to fly while she shopped..A dustdevil came along and took it 200 feet in the air heading east towards Phoenix..I didn’t mention it when she came back from shopping..She didn’t ask.. I didn’t tell..
The best thing about this strip is seeing toys and other things I and other boomers played with and the relaxed easier time that was then.No one was afraid all the time.We fell out of trees, fell over roller skating, took long walks and adventures with our dogs, we could go out in the morning and come home to eat lunch and go out all afternoon till almost dark and no body worried. The only thing was the cold war and the scary atom bomb documentaries.
Ah yes, the good old days of air travel! The seats were wider, there was more foot room, 4 packs of cigarettes from the flight attendants who actually seemed to care if you were comfortable, glasses of champaign, etc…

I still have one. It lead me to become a pilot. I still prefer rubber powered models to gas powered.
