‘XYZ walks into a bar’ is one of those classic comic gags, right up there with Moses parting his hair and someone putting bunny ears behind a bunny.

There was an old Donald Duck cartoon where Donald was walking down the sidewalk engaged in one of his typical low self-esteem internal dialogs when someone started yelling “Duck! Hey, Duck!” at him. Donald strode proudly down the street thinking, “Of course, I’m a duck! I’m a great duck! I’m —” and then plowed straight into an overhanging branch. The other guy says to him, “Hey, I tried to tell you: Duck!”
