Heart of the City by Steenz for June 23, 2010
Transcript:
Heart: I can't sleep.... Heart: What if mom dies and I'm suddenly an Orphan? What if I turn out really ugly and nobody ask me to the prom? Heart: What if I make it onto "American idol" and forget the words to my song and Ellen calls me a boobyhead? Heart: Some people are afraid of monsters under the bed, but they're nothing compared to the "What ifs" in my head.

Awwwwwww….children shouldn’t have to worry about all the ‘what if’s’ in the world… but, sadly, they do.
Just change your words a bit, Heart…just say ‘When I….’ as in ‘When I.. become an actress on Broadway…’ and ‘When I’m famous’… I’ll buy my mom a house’. That’ll help you sleep better.

As a little kid myself (once), I replaced my “what ifs” with “when I’s”.

@kfccanada - excellent strategy. I think I might try that sometime!

I tried to find the poem “What if”” in a Silverstein book. I got lost. So I grabbed another. Again I got lost. NEW RULE! I will never pick up a book of poetry again while commenting on GoComics. Second New Rule, I won’t quote it if I don’t know it. WHAT IF I’m wrong?.

Don’t sweat it, Heart. “Idol” will be showing nothing but reruns long before you’re ready for it.

She should feel lucky that Simon Cowell is leaving the show. The angry doesn’t even start at Boobyhead.

I didn’t worry about any of that stuff - my parents were invincible as far as I knew, I was already considered the “ugly girl” at school and American Idol didn’t exist yet, not that I can sing anyway! :)

I was like that as a kid, and I’m still like that now sometimes.
