Seeing Edith and her dad reminds me of something I’ve been wondering about for years. Is Edith Vietnamese? She looks Asian and since her father has this military bearing to him, I’ve wondered if he was over there during the war and adopted her. I’ve never seen any discussion about her mother, so I’ve been curious about this.

If he was there during the war and she’s adopted, she’d be around 36 years old, a small adult, and has no business playing football with kids that age. Unless this strip is set in the 1980s?

It was revealed early in Cleats that Edith’s mother, Bull Tippit’s wife, died when Edith was just an infant. I bet you didn’t know his name was Bull.

I can’t say I knew his last name was Tippit. (That’s a good name for a goalie - “Did you see Edith tippit? Brilliant save!” - intentional?)

We haven’t seen Coach Cutie in a while, Bill. Is that still a going concern?

I’ve imagined that Edith’s late mother was the grown-up Marcie from “Peanuts.” She got her mother’s looks and intellect, but her father’s athleticism…

Fritzoid - I like your idea about Edith’s late Mom, but judging by past story lines , it seems she got her mother’s athleticism, too.

Bill - is his REAL first name Bull?

Maybe Marcie was a late bloomer, and found a sport she enjoyed in High School…

Bull’s first name was inspired by my own experience registering for the draft along time ago. I guess I was nervous when I filled out the forms, and when I got my draft card I was listed as Bull Hinds. I was sure I was going to be drafted by the Marines.
