Good Morning JFri & Dry. No the Diamond Jim’s here is a locally owned breakfast and lunch spot that recently had to move to a new location when the city decided to make a turn lane where there small former restaurant was on State Street. They moved into a bigger space in the Fountain District. They serve very large portions. I can make two meals out of one breakfast.
I could probably make ONE meal out of one of their breakfasts, LOL!
My morning snack/breakfast consisted of baby carrots, celery slices, pickled cauliflower, a 2” x 2” slice of Cabot Habanero cheese, half of a yellow sweet pepper, and pickled baby corn. Lunch is now in about 1/2 hour!
I pack a snack for work to eat late morning since I rarely eat breakfast. I like milk and cereal, but I usually am running late, what with catching the last possible 5 minutes of sleep, and checking my emails and 2 Cows and OB, you know! (I’m not addicted, no sir!) I should bring a carton of milk and a box of cereal and just leave it here at work.
Cleo I used to, when I used my lunch hour time to pick my kids up at school at 3:00, take them home, and go back to work for another 45 mins. Now I go home, unless I need to do something (errands, appts, etc) over lunch hour. Then I will pack. Or grab something at Subway or Wendy’s (their fast food lunches are healthier, what with baked potaoes and chili as some of their choices.
JFri you WUSS!!!! Thought you were a tough dude?? And chili is good for you!!! Beans are one of the MOST NUTRITOUS THINGS YOU CAN EAT, and cooked in tomatoes and sauce, another very HEALTHY food!! So there!
I have to agree with JFri, any chili at a drive in is going to have stuff in it that you don’t want to eat. Homemade is a much better option. It is 72 degrees here and perfect, in my book.
I have beans nearly everyday. I love when either LilG or I make them from scratch, but Bush’s Grillin’ beans are good and they contain healthy ingredients.
Wendy’s large chili has 330 calories; 90 calories from fat. 10 grams total fat of which 4 are saturated fat and 1310 mgs of sodium. So it is not the worst choice from a take out menu, but that is a lot of sodium. Also, if you order salads, have the dressing on the side. Take out salads can be higher in fat than burgers and fries.
I have in the last year or two become a salt snob, we have a four compartment salt well we put on the table that always contains fleur de sel, and smoked salt, plus rotating salts like Hawaiian salt, black salt and gray salt. I too like salt on tomatoes, radishes and corn on the cob, but on everything else I use it sparingly if at all.
Cleo I don’t cook with salt, and we now only use sea salt. They say that helps lower cholosterol, don’t know if it does or not, but I like the texture better. Oh and i use salt on my little spring garden onions!
I have also been watching the sodium content and fat content in store bought canned goods, etc.
I remember growing up in rural North Dakota, we would have these little cut glass salt cellars and would dip green onions, radishes and just about everything in salt. I could not eat canned soup anymore and TV dinners as they are so full of sodium, but you find it in everything, so it is tough to avoid entirely. We do our best to eat healthily, but it is tough. We try to eat as much organic items as possible, especially the fruits and veggies that are on the dirty dozen list.
Yes, My mom had slat cellars too, so did my great Aunt Catherine! Had forgotten all about them. They were neat, I’m sure I can find them again in mom’s things, at least I hope so! A lot of things through the years, she would ask me if I wanted them, like a neat casserole dish, food chopper, kitchen things that would have been nice, but I always felt quilty taking things, even though she offered. She had done so much for us all through the years, I just didn’t feel right. Guess I should have taken them, because I guess she really didn’t want them. Can’t find them now, so I know she gave them to the church rummage sale, Goodwill or whatever! Found an OLD cribbage board, but just the board, no pieces.
Yes, the dirty dozen, let me see, off the top of my head, I can only remember broccoli and grapes! Apples?
In summer, I grow a lot of my own veggies, which you know, and I buy from the Farmer’s Market that runs from June thru Oct., Nov sometimes if the weather holds. Of course, in late autumn you don’t find much except cole crops, potatoes, apples and such.
We have two farmer’s markets which are very good but expensive, but we also have an small in city farm, which sells produce and plants right from the farm, plus at local stores. At the farm you can buy a head of lettuce that is to big for one of those plastic grocery bags for $1.25. We love it.
Hola Amigos!
Just wanted to check in real quick before I make a late dinner. I will be back later. I missed you all!!
JFri and Cleo, I’m glad you all had nice sunny days!
Thanks Cleo and JFri! It was okay, I guess. My arms are still a little sore.
JFri, I’m going to take a photo of my arsenal. I ended up with 2 machetes because I thought I had lost one of them. When I bought the second one, I found the first one. As for the axe, we have this palm tree in the front yard that needs to be trimmed every so often and someone told me it was easy to do it with an axe. My husband uses the chainsaw on it though. I can’t use the chainsaw, it aggravates my carpel tunnel. Aren’t you all glad about that?
Cleo, I am innocent!
Dry, Lizzie is glad to be back.
I quickly made some ground beef and some rice. Mix them together or eat them separately. Mixed together is better.
TV, not me Carmy, no TV in my household. I have listened to the news, over 10 hours and continuing tomorrow. It is hard to believe how fit these guys are.
well girlfriend. I have a doc appt before work tmr. so I am going to hit the feather pillows! You know how to reach me!

10 grams of fat? That’s more than I take in in an entire meal, not a measly little cup of chili. My homemade chili has 1.5 grams for a large bowl!

Can you believe I spelled ring with a “W”?

Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Carmy Mentos, the sparkly ones, spearmint, peppermint, whatever minty ones are at the checkout!
carmy over 14 years ago
I thought Mentos were mints. They have gum too?
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Yes mam, shaped like the mints, but it’s gum. They are good, since I can’t find Altoid gum anymore, these fit the bill.
carmy over 14 years ago
I use Tic Tac mints. I do chew gum sometimes, I like “Extra.”
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
SO does Joey, Extra Polar Ice. Mentos gum flavor lasts a long time for gums.
