If the country to the South of the USA wasn’t so broke, most of those people wouldn’t bother to come looking for ways to feed their families.

Reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath; they’re our new Okies. (Before you flame me for that, my Dad graduated in Osage, found himself in Long Beach in ‘34, joined the Marines and went to China, etc.)

The senator does have a good point, and the $8000 government stimulation has expired. Come to think of it, the senator has also dodged this issue, should the government spend any more tax money trying to jump start the economey? He does not say.

@TrapperJohn - it was primarily Bush’s redistribution of wealth and Clinton’s deregulation that’s causing the current problems, not Obama’s response.

looked like that old fat rat Ted Kennedy. Bet he is looking up from where he is at wishing it would cool down some. Well, at least he is now a good democrat…bet he still votes.

It appears to me that they were Mexican citizens who stole their own country and later joined the United States.

On February 2, 1848, The Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo was signed, later to be ratified by BOTH the U.S. and Mexican Congresses. The treaty called for the annexation of the northern portions of Mexico to the United States. In return, THE U.S. AGREED TO PAY $15 MILLION TO MEXICO as compensation for the seized territory.

This has been, for the most part, an extremely enlighting and intelligent discussion of a difficult question facing us all. I tend to agree that the analogy of the 1930’s Oklahoma refugees, who didn’t HAVE to be from OK to get the nickname, is a good one compared to the illegals from Mexico & lots of other countries on the globe. If there were no job opportunities here and if all patriotic employers, who love America, would only hire qualified, certified, legal Americans, then the Mexicans would be going south of the Rio Grande in a hurry & would have neveer been here in the first place. I hope this humble observation is welcomed into the conversation.

Yep…Shoe is a good strip..and it looks like the State Of The Union nattering ‘Nabobs’ are keeping it alive…just in a different location.. so sad….

15 million in 1848 dollars is just a tad more than that now. What with the minor improvements and all. We can always return it to the state it was in back then and then give it back.
