Dan – While I’m not in favor of any kind of gun control (except for criminals), I do have to admit I’m a little sick of all the machine guns and misc. gunfights on TV. A very large number of shows are just battlegrounds that will never happen in real life. (Mostly) Canadian TV and the BBC shows are wonderful examples of what TV should be! I wish I could subscribe to Canadian TV. They’re much more thoughtful, and relatively non-violent compared to US television.
TV/movies: tell the tale that a good guy out in the open with a five shot revolver, can take down 100 bad guys with automatic weapons, hiding behind walls, without even reloading. Thus the myth that the invulnerable good guy with a gun will always win against the bad guy with a gun.

I’m going with you Zork, American TV seems to be promoting the idea that the only solution to most differences is gunfire.
