I was able to help a couple of 5th grade boys who were struggling with fractions on paper, but when we were building a model railroad in our boys group at church, we had to cut lumber for the base. I was able to help them understand fractions but cutting the lumber to size and adding all the pieces together. The light dawned for both of the when they could actually hold something in their hands and see the value of fractions.
