Sir Dudley’s flag of Munch’s The Scream is a nice detail! But I find it ominous that the Sands of Time seem to be leaking out from Ms. Hel….

The Prose Edda says that she’s fierce-looking and half white and half black. Irregular parentage, I’d guess.

I’ll bet the sands represent time running out, that the world will come to an end if they stop. Either that, or she has to stand on her head sometimes, so the sands can flow the other way.

Hel was generally believed to have the head and upper body of a beautiful woman but the lower body and legs of a corpse. So I imagine she would be pretty leaky down there.

As far as Sir Dud’s flag goes, I wonder if it’s significant that Munch was Norwegian.

I LOVE wearing costumes. That’s one reason I joined SCA. I’m so very proud of my new 10th century garb (including turned shoes with silk embroidery and pearls), even though my personna is a Lady at Emperor Frederick’s court (13th C). 10th C is for the Danelaw Wedding feast ;-)
