There was a native American character in Joseph Heller’s novel Catch 22. The character and his family always settled over undiscovered oil fields. The oil companies started following them around so that they could fine the oil, kick them off the land, and drill for the oil. Soon, the oil companies started predicting where the family would relocate to next. They’d then start drilling before the family arrived. When the family got there, they’d have to move on to the next location.
