If any of you recall the TV show “Family Matters”, reminds me of one scene from a Halloween episode where the Winslow family gave trick-or-treaters canned goods like pork and beans. I think daughter Laura was going to make a stop at the bank in order to buy candy, but a vulgarly occurred. Luckily nerdy neighbor Steve Urkel as well as Laura’s cop father Carl saved the day.
I remember when I was a little kid, I went to this one old dark house out in the country and and old grandmaw type lived there alone and when I knocked on the door she offered me an old dried up bisquit… I left and took a few bites and threw it away… Never have been back since.That was the weirdest visit ever.
When I was a kid in the early 1970s, my older brother in high school would take any apples we received instead of candy and chuck them down the street. We didn’t keep anything unwrapped and touched by human hands.
RE: yesterday’s strip. Brian Crane posted an email from someone that works at Daisy Brand. They launched a squeeze pouch for sour cream this year. It envisioned 20 years ago.
I sometimes give kids hings like cans of asparagus or beets. The parents think it’s hilarious. The kids give me very weird looks. Then I give out the candy.
My parents and their siblings have never been able to pass up a good deal. At one point one of my mom’s brothers (John) got a great deal on a case of mustard packets and gave the case to my mom’s other brother (Jim) as a gift. Jim lives alone, so there’s only so much mustard that he can use. So to make use of the excess, on one Halloween he passed out mustard packets to the trick-or-treaters. I have an odd family.

That would NEVER happen here. My husband food shops as if we were a family of 10. GRRR!! It’s just the 2 of us.
