Los sueños en los que los hombres están hechos.
Que desafortunadamente, siempre seguirá siendo sólo eso, sueños.
(The dreams on which men are made.
That unfortuantely, will always remain just that, dreams.)
Cleo, the visit is going well. More relatives coming in this evening. Big BBQ party during the weekend. Light rain this morning, but mostly sunny this afternoon.
Just checking in quick. Cleaning grapes, pineapple, cantaloupe, cherries so you can just grab them to eat, steaming broccoli for a cold Italian marinade, maybe I’ll wash some dishes, and then eventually go for a walk, a longer one this time. Only did 1/2 hour last night because I started too late.
New people bought the house next door. Said hi to them and their lab a couple of times. Right now they are VERY loud and bickering. I hope it’s just the stress of moving, and isn’t their typical lifestyle. Just got rid of noisy, party at 4 am neighbors!
There is nothing worse than loud neighbors. Our only problem is a neighbor whose dog howls when he is gone. It gets annoying in the summer when you are outside.
I am making homemade salsa and will be baking some baguettes and then making Pansotti with Walnut Sauce later on for dinner.
The sun is out again so will spend some time maybe doing what you are Dry, going for a walk.
Sorry Dry, we eat a lot of nuts. I made today’s salsa with adobo seasoned tomatoes, tomatillo, onion, garlic, lime juice, black pepper, cilantro, jalapeno, red pepper flakes, green chilis, a smidgen of leftover black beans and Cholula. I think that is all.
I’ll have to try your salsa recipe. I usually don’t measure in recipes like that. I grew tomatillos one year, don’t know why I didn’t do it again, it turned out well>
Cleo, we’re waiting on my nephew and his wife. It was raining copious amounts in Houston and that is where their connecting flight was to the Valley, their flight was delayed several times. My sister that lives in McAllen hasn’t been by yet. She’s been busy at work. She will be here tomorrow.
I’ll let you all know what is on the menu and you can decide if you want to come by or not. You all are certainly welcome!
Dinner and dishes are done. Dry, I don’t measure either and I change up the recipe according to the ingredients in the house.
I spent a lot of time in McAllen Carmy. I am used to a city with tons of good grocery stores. McAllen was the only one that had one great store on the North End of town. It was an HEB that had the sorts of items we are used to here. Most of the HEBs were like grocers we used to see here in the 60s. I loved the sun though. I am sure that you are aware that all the winter Texans are referred to as Q-Tips.
Cleo, I never heard the term “Q-Tips” about the Winter Texans. I know we had a name for them, but I can’t remember it right now.
I have to go, I’ll try to come back later.
I love H.E.B.!!!
Snow Birds is a common term used in Arizona, but Rio Grande Valley was the first place I heard the predominant term used as Q-Tips, which I think is pretty funny and accurate.
QTips? Why that term?
I was only in Texas once, layover in Dallas. Someday I want to do the River Walk. The pictures look like it is a neat place to see, oh and I want to see the Alamo. Used to want to see Irving Stadium, back in the day. Now I could care less about the Cowboys!
Plus, the majority of the population in Rio Grande Valley is like 90 to 95 Hispanic. In the winter you get those pale old caucasions who roam on down for the warm winters.
San Antonio is nice Dry, I also like the hill country. Texas has some wonderful state parks, but here is a trivia item for you…they have only one natural lake.

Cleo I guess I will have to pass on the Pansotti! How do you make your salsa? As soon as my tomatoes are ripe, I will make some as well.

Just got back from my walk. Everybody is arriving for the long weekend on the lake. It is becoming party central.
