In 2006, Austria issued a stamp containing dust from a 42 pound meteorite from Morocco. In 1977, Doug Pritchard of Lenoir, NC, went to the doctor with a sore foot, and discovered a tooth growing in his instep! Miami, Florida, is the only major US city founded by a woman- Julia Tuttle in 1896.

One word about the tooth in the foot: ouch. As for an Aussie stamp containing meteorite dust, how much does that go for? Finally, never even occurred to me that there’d be a founding mother of a city.

That fact about a woman being the founder of Miami was a question on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” just this week.

For those like me who can’t remember which is which, here is a clip from Wikipedia showing the difference between a meteorite and a meteoroid. A meteorite is no longer in space…
A meteorite is a solid piece of debris from a source such as an asteroid or a comet, which originates in outer space and survives its impact with the Earth’s surface. It is called a meteoroid before its impact.
