In 2007, when this strip was originally printed, the 50-star flag became the longest used version of the US National flag. I guess that’s why Beth was commenting on the old 48-star flag (1912-1959), which is easy to spot because the stars are directly under each other, rather than offset as they are now.

Heh… turns out the “original” Boston Tea Party was only partly about taxes… seems there was also something about a huge corporation with a big lalapalooza of a tax exemption selling tea in Boston at supreme discounts undercutting the local merchants…
