I just saw a documentary on the Sphinx, a mutated breed that produces hairless cats. The skin is indeed marked with the colour patterns we see in their fur.
Unfortunately, some people have taken to tattooing their hairless cats. Strewth.

One draw back to having a sphinx cat is you have to bathe them once a week. Their skin can get acne.
I also prefer a regular kind of cat. I have a big one eyed orange cat called Jack and a small black cat called Lucky.
