I remember something about the metric system in France though the exact lines elude me.

I thought the strip was funny on it’s own, but Parethed, you nailed it.

That’s where Popeye debuted before he became a big star.

    to myming:

I wish I knew how to post a link, but do not, unfortunately. It you go to wikipedia.org and enter Thimble Theater you’ll find out all about it. It used to be the title of Popeye’s comic strip.

myming, Thimble Theater is the name of the comic strip in which Popeye first appeared. Eventuallly, he became the dominant character and it was renamed. In animated form, he first showed up in a Betty Boop cartoon.

You know what this means: If Popeye shows up on your turf, he’s there to take over.

vlechtja - Here’s the quote in context from Pulp Fiction:

Jules: Well, if you like burgers give ‘em a try sometime. I can’t usually get ‘em myself because my girlfriend’s a vegetarian which pretty much makes me a vegetarian. But I do love the taste of a good burger. Mm-mm-mm. You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France? Brett: No. Jules: Tell ‘em, Vincent. Vincent: A Royale with cheese. Jules: A Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that? Brett: Because of the metric system?
