Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Gâday Jason and all Meggsieâs mates. Have to be a little brief in greetings, list suddenly got too long but you all know who you are.
Ginger monkeying around again. A red wig would have solved the problem.
LW18: Ginger has had a monkey pet Tony) since, um, well, he appears in the 1925 Annual which would mean Ginger got him in 1924. A gift from an exploring uncle.
Blush department. OtraVez: I made the same mistake about who was playing video games with Ginger a couple of weeks ago. It was a small kid called Chubb.
Well, Iâll be buttered on both sides OtraVez, youâre right. After my embarrassment a couple of weeks ago I should have checked back - it defintely was Tony then. He is a smart little cookie.
Dry and OttoD: Putting the graffiti through Photoshop shows it to read âHard work pays off in the future, laziness pays off nowâ.
Gee, hope I spelt âgraffitiâ correctly. Including my own spelling of it in the past, I have seen more variations than how Shishkabob is spelt around the traps.
usfellers Makes sense to me! And graffiti looks right to me. I thought there was only one way to spell Shishkabob! Okay, since that was said, canât help but think of the phrase, âBobâs your uncle!â donât ask me what it means, it just popped into my head!
Ok Dry, here we go - Shishkabab, shishkabeb, shishkabib , shishkabob, shishkabub (all the vowels seemed to work). Then we go back and start off all over again with Sheeshkabab, etc. Have seen all of them, with one enterprising takeaway place offering shiskabubs and another with shishkebibs.
It makes for a great adult car tour game. Another one is to jot down the use/misuse/omission of the poor apostrophe. Best Iâve seen there is a comma used in its place.
Dry: It must be an Australian peculiarity and a phonetic spelling of some foreign word. We have many restaurants and takeaways run by new arrivals and I suppose they spell it how it sounds to them.
Some of the menus at Asian restaurants are a nightâs entertainment in themselves.
Hey JFri - luv it. Yeah, poor old Bob. Bab, Beb, Bib and Bub get a bad time too every now and again. Only just yesterday there was a stand set up near my local supermarket that said Sheeshka to Bob.
Also near home there is a workout place that has the sign Squash Sauna Gym. Seriously - I did this - I phoned them and asked what Sauna Jim had done to deserve being squashed. The lack of humour on the other end suggested that I should not pursue why they couldnât do it themselves instead of inciting someone else to do their dirty work.
Terrible isnât it Dry. I sometimes hang my head in shame but the guilt soon passes. Canât help having a dig at those who live off the fat of the land.
OtraVez: Yes, it is such a place, but if you want to go there be sure your name ainât Jim. From what is plainly visible through expansive windows to all and sundry passing in the street, those prancing around all over the place may well be called upon to see you meet your Maker.
Shishkabab reminds me of reading âThe Seven Pillars of Wisdomâ by T. E. Lawrence. Since there were no rules for rendering Arabic words and names into English, he did it phonetically and inconsistently, so that sometimes the same name would be spelled differently two or three times on the same page. Made it a little hard to follow.
So youâve heard about the type of kebab that was on sale near the local supermarket.
Re the Prince Albert cherstnut, yes, suppose so There is, of course, the situation of the snappy-catch answer where an intended victim gets a shot, as in:
Irate motorist in the carpark: âHey, do you know you are parked so close to my car I canât get in.â
The errant slob: âNo, but if you whistle a couple of bars I might remember the tune.â
