    There aren’t really many lovable, relatable characters in Game of Thrones… The only other book-to-show series I’m particularly familiar with either didn’t last long enough to kill everyone off (Dresden Files) or actually had a higher survival rate than the books (True Blood).

    There was one author event I went to where here first advice is to include a character “too dumb to live”. E.g., the guy who lives next to a cemetery who hears a noise and goes into the unlighted cellar to investigate.

    That never happens in any of my favorite shows. Of course, a lot of my favorite shows are old ones that I watch on DVD.
