I think the Pennys rented the house next to us a few years ago.
The guy was putting out decorations the same time we were. When he got to the end of his front window, he discovered his string of lights was about 18 inches too long.
He called over to us and asked, “Do you think the lights will still work if I cut off the extra?”
Hubby didn’t miss a beat. He called back, “Yeah, but only if you cut the string while it’s plugged in.”

Why don’t you just put them all up in the living room, so you don’t have to share them at all?
Then maybe instead of the “Ho-ho-ho!” banner on the front door,
you could have a nice glittery sign that says “Bwah-ha-ha!”

He won’t actually plug them in. Why use electricity when there aren’t many people out at night?

My mother always had all the decorations inside, because she believed that holidays were supposed to be a family thing, not a public thing.
