Andy: All of these computers are so much more advanced than our old one. Jason: No duh. Mom, our old computer was ancient! Obsolete! A fossilized relic from a bygone era! I can't believe Dad found a buyer! Andy: Jason, it was three years old. Jason: Exactly. Andy: Well, speaking as someone about to turn 43... I've got news for you, Mom... Kid: Hello. I'm the owner of this super-store. Have you ben helped?

Tanya: it will be like any other computer, used to surf the internet, play games and very rarely any kind of work. And then in 6 months need to be upgraded!

It looks as though Jason has found a buddy and a mentor. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

I’ve always wondered why Jason didn’t build his own computer, but I figure he’s more of a software than a hardware expert.

Jason would hate me. Recently I worked for and eagerly pursued a very specific computer, and practically became its owner’s lackey until I’d earned from him enough to buy it.
I know full well it could only support Winows 98.
I had an excuse, though; all of the games from my childhood run very, very poorly on current systems. I wanted a spare computer for nostalgic gaming.

Nice floppy drives… :)
RE: $16k box A mac pro with everything can go well over US$16,000.00. It still carries the apple tax, and probably sucks more than equivalent non-mac PCs, but it’s still a pretty good machine to lust over.

While I have and love my iMac, my daily companion and indispensable tool is a 15 year old HP200LX, a DOS_5, PC-XT clone that uses a flash memory card as a HD. It has the best PIM (Personal Info Manager) I have ever seen. Sometimes a piece of technology reaches a pinnacle and nothing can replace it for the fans.

We had to update since our old one decided it was enough. Sold old one on ebay. I’m thinking I might have to have a laptop since hubby and I share. And I’m heading towards online Jr. college. that is expensive.

I have both a G5 Imac and a 3Ghz Duo Core running XP Pro that I built from parts. But I think the most trouble free machine I ever had was an old 386 running DOS 3.0

Kab Buch:
Netbooks can do almost as much as laptops and cost less and are more portable.
They’re more useful if one has a regular PC at home to sync with.

Why doesn’t Jason want to build his own? Or, well, build a family computer from parts he has his parents buy? Perhaps in 1999 building computers wasn’t as big…

Maybe they should wait until the gurus come up with a $1,000 computer that can out-calculate the whole human race. Supposedly we should have that by mid-century, when Jason the mad genius will be truly old enough to make full use of it.
