While this is true that cats can be food oriented, they also can stay nearby if you are sick. Like they may be showing compassion or concern for their human.
I remember lying in bed, sick, with a cat on one side, a cat between my legs, and a cat on the other side. I wanted to turn over. I had to wriggle out from under the blankets, turn over, and wriggle back in, carefully fitting my legs into the same spaces.
