This is one of my favorite strips. Just four panels sums ups their relationship so well. I can just imagine all the mockery Calvin received from Hobbes when he found out.

Years ago, my dad received a hateful valentine. Instead of blowing up, he just waited and acted like nothing had happened.Several days later. a kid asks him:“Did you get any valentines?”“Nope, not a single one!”“You didn’t? Why, I sent you one!”

Is that wedding bells I hear in the distance?

Watterson says he thinks Calvin probably has a crush on Susie but doesn’t know it, and Susie is the kind of woman Watterson was attracted to and married. He also said Calvin was his alter-ego.

I remember this one. I think it’s Mr. Watterson’s best.

Keep in mind where the romantic Hobbes comes from. Calvin is quite capable of going after girls, even if he isn’t quite willing to admit it to himself.

Before you start marrying off Calvin, keep in mind he will always be six years old…

He went to a lot of effort to get her attention. She noticed. Play ground touchdown, all the way around.
