If you didn’t need or want the item of the coupon, that’s saving even more money.
I do like the reward card associated coupons, load them up online, forget about them and suddenly $0.50 off on the receipt for something you really were buying anyway.
I told this story before, so I apologize for repeating myself; but I stopped at the local market to pick up bread and milk. I am waiting in line behind a woman who is rifling through her purse looking for a 5 cent coupon on something she was purchasing. This is taking what seems like an unbearable amount of time, and a line is starting to form behind me.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out some coins, and not having a nickel, I laid a dime on the counter in front of the woman and said, “Here you go! You can use this!”
She turned to me and said, “But the coupon is only for 5 cents!”
Some places still honor them! Just ask! And ask for a senior discount on top of that! I got four items the other day for less than one of them cost! Shop smart…ASK!

Yes, the self serve lanes are basically a joke, as there is always someone there helping folks get through the sale! I was in a store in Portland, Maine several years ago, where there was a lane for cash customers only, and they wouldn’t allow checks, credit cards, or coupons! I thought it was a wonderful concept, as I always purchase groceries with cash (you know, the green paper stuff you keep folded in a money clip) and never, ever use coupons…

Coupons expire very quickly now, they used to be good for 3 months or more or have no expiration date. Those days ar gone.
