Well, sure we all rooted for the coyote. He had a personality, he had dreams, and anyone with a pulse could relate to his frustration and his undying optimism. He was one of us!

But the roadrunner? None of the above. Just a grinning temptation that would never go away.

Dang, those cartoons were freaking brilliant.

there was one cartoon where the coyote caught the roadrunner but he couldn’t decide how to cook him and he got away.

lately when they show those old cartoons they edit out Coyote’s impact after the falls….too much violence? not compared to ones like family guy or ed,edd and eddy.

People typically root for the Underdog …. but that was another cartoon.

And is the Acme Anvil Company still in business?

The plot of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” involved the murder of the founder of the Acme Corporation–which, of course, made so many things besides anvils. I haven’t watched the movie lately, but going by the Wikipedia summary, it appears that the Toons of Toontown now own Acme. By the way, there is supposed to be a sequel in the works.

I can still hear the sound effects even now…

“Meep…Meep”…Coyote over edge of the cliff….

hanging in mid-air with that (oh $h%t) look on

his face…then the inevitable top shot looking down

as Coyote falls into the canyon…..(bomb whistling sound).. Chuck Jones will live forever…

He was using the wrong bait. Roadrunners don’t eat birdseed. They eat small reptiles & rodents. They’re especially fond of rattlesnake.

Picture the roadrunner with a border patrol badge. A panting Speedy Gonzalez hides in the hallow of a cactus. “I hate reality programming.” Sylvester & Bugs respond (from the coyote’s stomach); “Tell us about it!”

On further investigation, I could be wrong. Acme’s will gave Toontown to the Toons, but a 2007 Forbes profile accompanying the magazine’s annual listing of fictional tycoons has Marvin Acme Jr. as the CEO, so perhaps the company went to the son. The story has Acme launching a theme park, and mentions the sale of its “instant-o-delivery-system” to Amazon.

The URL won’t work, but go to Forbes.com, search “Loony Land or Bust” and click on the story from December 11, 2007.

I have a cousin that actually did a flip-book animation of the coyote catching the road runner and eating him. It ended with just a pile of feathers. Ben always was an overachiever.
