The worst and evilest statements, I have heard, usually opened with “Society demands.” Right after my discharge in 1972, I was repeatedly told – from liberals, usually, “Society demands that you be grateful to just be alive.” By the way, veteran benefits were being endlessly blocked and even being flagrantly denied.
