    Hardly. Afghanistan, the graveyard of Afghans. And Afghans’ aspirations to civilization. The Afghan people are the real victims of the Taliban, and the psycho, testosterone soaked, drug dealing warlords and tribal elders for hundreds if not thousands of years. At least the Americans have made an effort to advance the country into the eighteenth century….

    Russia is still a large powerful country. Britain is still great, and was an empire long after their Afghan dust up. The Greek empire likewise existed for centuries after invading Afghanistan. It’s not the graveyard of empires, it’s the graveyard of Afghans!

    ^ “we are not there to conquer or rule.” then why are our soldiers being sent home in body bags ?

    “we are assisting the duely elected, U.N. recognized government against a few malcontents.”

    the afgani rulers have run their country the same way for hundreds of years and their way of fighting is effective. they’re a tough people. why do they want to change ? what makes us responsible (war) for their change ? a FEW malcontents ? takes an army to control ?

    if we’re going to “assist”, a few bombs (not nuclear) strategically placed should do it in a short amount of time…

    get the helsinki out of there !!!!!!!!!!!

    just sayin’… :->

    re-adjust your binoculars…..the US gave aid and assistance to prevent the Russians taking Afghanistan.

    In this 2001-2010 period of time, the Taliban are not the Rulers of that nation…..at least not yet. But with Obama and Cameron of the UK pulling at the leash, when the NATO forces and the US military leave the Afghans to cope all by themselves, the Taliban will certainly move back and try to re-assume Ruler-ship.
