We only know of the works of Edgar Allan Poe because he paid to have them published. Never made much money from it.

That particular Escher drawing was always my favorite.
…and also as to what Mr. Roberts was doing on his time off from illustrating this strip—reading too much H. P. Lovecraft and visiting The Hague in the Netherlands, after which he drew his nightmares.
