Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for April 26, 2016
Transcript:
Honey: What's this around his neck? Zonker: Must be his papers. "Bonjour. My name is Legume, your zombie slave. You'll find a year's supply of my controlling agent packed in dry ice near my feet. If you beat me ruthlessly upon arrival, and thereafter keep me on a low-salt diet, I should provide years of trouble-free domestic service." Duke: I don't do stables, though. I've had it with stables. Honey: Sir! Welcome home!

Can’t even get a zombie nowadays who doesn’t make demands.

So the controlling agent never really controlled Duke…

It’s DUKE. Odds are, he’ll be more bombed out of his mind if you give him ten minutes alone than he ever was under zombie control.

He must be an unstable zombie.

In re some comments from yesterday….It’s no secret that here are MANY strips missing from this curated Doonesbury retrospective… it’s not meant to be complete.Read Garry’s blurb on the right hand side of this page —→he says he’s hitting “high points.” If he were rerunning the whole strip, we’d still be in the early 1970’s.Meanwhile…if you don’t have the books and want to fill in the blanks, you can go back to the very first strip of any comic on this site by clicking the double left-pointing arrows above it.
To go to a specific time in the archives, use the little calendar tool above the right-hand corner.
Click on the earliest year that seems to be available, and then, even earlier years will appear in the list…. so do it again… a few clicks takes you all the way back to 1970.I have no idea whether it works if you’re not signed in, or even for non-Pro members…but if it doesn’t, it might be worth the 99 cents a month (paid by the year, though) just to read ALL of Doonesbury!

Oh yeah, the Monet with the mayonnaise stain near the lower right corner. (I believe it had been hanging in the kitchen.)

He needs more controlling agent. I have to do the low salt diet thing. It’s OK, but I have to cook a lot from scratch and leave out the salt, and it is hard to pick a low salt item off of a restaurant menu.

PS….any low salt eating tips posted here, would be a appreciated.

They told my wife to go on the Dash Diet; she sent me to the store to get Mrs Dash. I sent her a picture of a whole row of different flavors and said “Which one?”

“You’ll find a years supply of my controlling agent packed in dry ice near my feet”Bad plan. Certain asphyxiation. As to the low salt diet and frequent beatings, I suppose that is at the discretion of the new “owners”

And with that, Legume is a has-bean.

Beat him ruthlessly. He’ll do stables.

Adiraiju, This must have been the best readers’ comment I’ve read so far on Doon. (Also, my reply will not be posted as a reply no matter how many times I tried through the entire day. )

Doesn’t do stables? What the hell is this? A taste of the ol’ cat-o’nine will straighten the bugger out.
