Transcript:
Janis: I cannot BELIEVE what those children have done with that old gas station up on the highway! Janis: That place was just a shack! A DUMP!! Janis: And they've turned it into the SWEETEST little produce stand! Janis: You know, Gene always was good to eat his veggies! Arlo: Yes, we're fools not to have seen this coming!

The only thing that they could have seen coming would be his love of gardening thanks to Janis and his work ethic thanks to Arlo.

what gas station? I thought they were building a wooden stand like a kids lemonade stand.

That station will still be selling gas if the kids sell broccoli in the future!

We ate vegetables from a can when I was a kid.Canned peas, canned carrots, canned corn, canned peas and carrots, cream corn and so on.The only fresh vegetables I remember trying to eat were the ones we got raiding our neiborhood gardens at night. We would steal carrots, and peas, and crab apples, but I would spit them out because I was used to mushy stuff from a can.At least there was always a joint of meat simmering on the stove,or my father would burn garbage in the field behind our house, and my brother and I would throw potatoes in the fire and retrieve them when the fire died down to embers, blackened and charred, but boy did they taste good.

I wonder how long it will be before the USDA, state health departments or local zoning authorities step in and put stumbling blocks in front of Gene et al. with their nanny-state regulations?
