It’s an age thing. To me, a hat has a brim that goes all the way around; a cap has a bill that sticks out in one direction, or no bill at all. Try it: “Digger cap.” “Safari cap.” “Baseball hat.” See?
When I was a kid, gentlemen took off their hats entering a building.
Now with baseball caps, men don’t
What changed?
Caps are not hats?
Men are not gentlemen?
Show some respect, to the lady you’re with or the church you walk into. Respect yourself with manners.
Lewreader: With you on this although maybe the reason men don’t seem to take off their hats or at least touch them when meeting a lady anymore is because most men don’t wear them.
Haven’t studied the situation where males wear caps, probably because the company in which most are worn are of is different generation to me. However, if anyone from my school failed to lift their cap, or at least hold the peak when greeting a lady, or any senior person for that matter, the incident soon found its way the the Principal’s office. Dashes to beat ladies to trams, trains or buses courted disaster.
For examples of good manners, the TV series ‘Poirot’ is recommended. But anyone watching it should be prepared to feel sad about what we have lost in the 21st century; not just in common courtesy.
Dry: Great isn’t it. I’d give a right arm to jump into the screen and live in his apartment. A happy fact is that those cars, trains and art deco buildings must exist, they are not props. The ladies’ costumes, especially at parties and functions, has this male turning cartwheels.
