if you were singing, Lucy, then how come the readers didn’t see any musical notes hovering over your head?

She is choreographing her music video with green beans and mashed potatoes.

Still in a highchair with a bib, and she can say, “Yes, mother?” like that? What an advanced child.

This strip features something that would quickly disappear in later years: An adult’s actual words shown in talk balloons. By the time the animated specials started, Charles Schulz had already removed adult speech from the strip in favor of having the regular characters’ responses indicate what had been said.

And of course, in the animated specials, adult speech was represented by the “wah-wah” sound.

This is one of my favorites from the early times. It crosses my mind a lot for some reason.

I know what Lucy was singing: “Now eat your supper, Lucy dear. Or you can get on out of here. You’re nothing like your little bro. So to your room you’d better go. Yakety yak. Don’t talk back.”

Why is she denying that she was fussing? I thought she was proud of being a fussbudget.

Sometimes she was singing.

I remember when my youngest sister was around five to seven. Every time she would sing to herself, someone in the house would go see why she was crying. Then she’d get mad and stop singing.

It looks like there is a hole in the middle of the table!
