He sounds so much like my dad right now. If it doesn’t taste like the jam/jelly that he’s used to then he doesn’t care for it, no matter where it came from.

There is a difference between Jelly and Jam. Jelly is similar to Jell-O, no chunks of fruit in it. They are probably eating Jam or Preserves.
