I remember many years ago, some grocery stores had literally ‘white box’ generics.. there was cereal, beer, various canned goods, etc. and the only ‘brand’ on the box was ‘Generic’.
Ironically, both that and many ‘store brands’ are manufactured by the same companies that sell well-known brands.
Yeah, I remember generics too…In the early ‘80’s when we were first married, my husband and I bought quite a bit of the generic products, because they were quite a bit cheaper and were, for the most part, just as good as the national brands. I’ve often wondered why generics disappeared…but as long as store brands are around, we still save money.
Photoman022 you beat me to it. Which state are you from? I thought only Wichita had Aldi’s. I buy rainsbran there, can’ veg’s, laundry deter small size is cheaper then big size, etc. For people who have to watch fat content ground turkey there not that great of a bargain for a lot of people to eat.
Where my sister lives at they have a different type of saver store can’t remember the name. They sell off brands.
In short there are times you get what you pay for Ziggy. As for generic versions of foods, it’s a hit or miss situation. Some generic versions are Crappy & some are better than the “REAL” thing. What you’re mostly paying for with national brands is marketing & fancy packaging. Read the labels. How bad can one screw up cornflakes?
As an aside, check out where some of these products are made also…buy products made in the US of A…the job you save may be your own, or that of your neighbor…

if you want to save money try shopping at Aldi and PriceRite. Great products at 1/3 the cost of other chains. And, no, I’m not a spam bot

Ziggy, there are plenty of other affordable, healthier choices. I hope you got your credit cards back from those pesky mice.

Pretty badly DrMoses. I can attest from personal experience. No amount of sugar, milk or chewing would help the generic corn flakes I had.
