Such was the first draft of Olaf Stapledon’s LAST AND FIRST MEN, with Odd John as the main character. Stapledon eventually changed the circumstances of the book, and gave John his own, separate story.
So… I guess there must have been an apocalypse about a thousand or so years ago, and our next minor apocalypse will be within the next 15 years? (And, thanks to GoComics for reprinting a comic that’s about a thousand years old.)
