From one perspective, He had a good reason – they violated the rules He laid down. But of course, being omnipotent, He knew that they would do that, so in effect He set them up to fail. Which of course makes no sense other than to suggest that He is not sane. My preferred interpretation of this creation myth is that it’s an allegory of how children come into the world innocent, and before they can leave their parents and set out on their own they have to grow up and learn about good and evil.
I don’t really get this one – I know, the Pillsbury Doughboy is always getting poked in the stomach, and he’s complaining to the doctor because it’s giving him an ache (although he always seems to like it in the commercials, that’s just for the cameras – one of the celebrity tabloids reported a very ugly scene in a restaurant when some of his fans tried it without his permission). Anyway — what is he afraid the doctor is about to do – poke him also? Wouldn’t that just be part of the examination? What’s the joke?
