about 20 years ago, heading from Jackson hole west over to Idaho, we were in a full size van…I was driving and thought it was dark rain clouds up ahead, we were climbing a hill (van wasn’t the most reliable over heated some times) and as we got closer we realized it was mosquito’s. Turned off the AC, closed the vents and some still got in but thousands of them hit the windshield and splatted, I couldn’t see very well at that point and washer fluid wasn’t cutting it. We were just like, uh not pulling over in this…keep driving. Got to the next town and it was caked on the head lights so hard they were useless and spent 30 mins just cleaning the windshield.
never seen anything like that before or again. I just tremble at the thought of feeding 10,000 or so mosquitos.
I once visited Florida during August. While traveling by car, we encountered huge swarms of “love bugs”. They were actually quite intensely-black flies with red spots on their thoraxes. They sure did a number on our car! Local gas stations all had supplies ready to help travelers clean them off.

Ride a motorcycle through southern Louisiana mid-spring. Same thing. Keep your mouth closed!
